Ball Head

Can a costume ball head of a landscape photographer needs?

I've always used a pan / tilt head. But I'm thinking of getting a head ball. Can a head ball cover all the angles that a pan / tilt can? Would it be less useful or more useful than a pan / tilt head? Thank you! Jake

Ball heads are mostly useful when shooting in the field and the field is not level, so leveling camera using a ball head can be easier. The have a lot to "lock" the ball head tripod head, so I stay my pan / tilt head that I used the form of many years both with my 4×5 camera, 35mm and digital SLR cameras
