Why should I buy a Nikon camera with a U.S. warranty on a gray market version?

I'm looking for, but a D300 a eBay seller. There are many "gray market" cameras with lenses that packages are cheaper than U.S. cameras warrantied. What is the main difference and what would be the best option to go. It is the U.S. version much better? Is it the same camera? What is the difference in the securities etc? Thanks in advance!

Many gray-market goods are not produced by the manufacturer. They are really blows offs or clones of the products. They may appear in the same on the outside, but inside is a different story.
