How can a local judge to prevent the release of a movie nation wide?

In 2001, an injunction issued against production and distribution of a film in the U.S. The court order has been lifted now, but how can it be possible for a local county judge pass an order preventing the distribution of the film domestically? Is not outside its jurisdiction?

You are correct that a county judge can not prevent the release of a movie that is not within the jurisdiction of the court (probably the state in which the judge sits). But if the owner and the issuer of the film is within the jurisdiction of the court, the judge can prevent him / her to allow the film to be produced and distributed. If the owner of the film is outside the jurisdiction, the judge can only control the activities in that state. So it really depends on whether the owner is subject to the jurisdiction of that court.
