How do I connect and transfer video to my computer with my Sony Digital 8 Handycam DCR-TRV480?

I'm shooting a movie that I will publish in You Tube when it's finished and I'm filming with a Sony Digital 8 Handycam unlike my other projects, but never when I connect to my computer the computer does not recognize I put the camera to record mode and play mode and still nothing … I'm on a compaq laptop and have heard a lot about fire wire, if there is a way to do without please tell me.

Digital8 has a DV port. That is a 4-pin FireWire port. You need to connect to a firewireport in the computer using a cable FireWire. Firewire, i.LINK, IEEE1394 DV and are all the same thing. If your computer does not have a 1394 port, hopefully it has a PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot so you can availale add a FireWire port. USB does not transfer DV video quality. And a USB-POS FireWire cable converter does not work, either.
