Tracking a laser or infrared digital camera?

I remember reading somewhere a tutorial how to convert a neat old camera digital or web camera in a laser or infrared tracking device so that it tracks your movements on the computer. I've looked high and low for the last two hours on the web and can not seem to find the website anywhere. If anyone can help, I would appreciate.

I know there is a filter in the Web camera lens that filters infrared light so that they can not see in the picture, but if you pop open the camera and remove the filter (it looks a bit like a piece of a film negative) and put the camera back together, you will be able to see the IR light-proof your TV remote.
