Can my photo supplies pass through airport x-ray?
I travel to Italy and bringing with me 20 rolls of 35 mm, 400 ISO and 100 ISO film, and 10 rolls of 120 mm ISO 100 film. Besides the film will bring a box of paper Kodak Supra Endura photographic color. If It all began in my hand luggage? Do any of you need to inspect hand?
Absolutely do not put any of that in your checked baggage, such as machines X-rays used for checked baggage permanently damage both exposed and unexposed film. The TSA guidelines say that there is no damage to the film ISO 400 and below with a maximum of 5 passes through the transfer of x-ray machine Anything beyond that, and you may request an inspection of hand. In the U.S., the TSA is bound to honor the request. Personally, I have passed the ISO 1600 and 3200 carry the film through the scanner times Multiple (over 5). The most extreme effect I saw was a slight increase in cloud base, although not to the extent that you did something unprintable. Most rolls had no detectable effect. If you are really concerned, however, Fedex to the hotel where they will stay ahead of time.
