What does this mean for you? Well, unless you are a health worker, a pregnant woman, have a compromised immune system or are under 24, you may have to wait for your swine flu vaccine.

As expected, there are things you can do to prevent both seasonal and avian influenza H1N1. Try to stay away from crowds. If you leave, wash your hands frequently and not touching your mouth, nose or eyes.

If the flu is widespread in your area and you must go out, wear a mask approved for protection against germs of others. If you really want to protect yourself, wear disposable gloves and throw them away when I get home and then wash your hands.

Get enough rest and if you have overweight, try to lose weight. Overweight is a risk factor for complications of H1N1. Eat healthy vegetables and fruits and reduce sugar and empty calories. Drink water during all day to keep hydrated.
