My PENTAX auto 110 function correctly without batteries?

I have not been able to find batteries that are compatible to it anywhere. Thus I wonder if I can forget the batteries. Or are they important?

I did not see if the opening can be adjusted on the lens, but it seems that their function within the body. But anyway, I at least found a battery right?
