Numerous proposals have been made to state and federal level in the last couple of years to address the problem of illegal immigration. Some politicians want to build a wall across our entire southern border. However, others argue for the idea of punishing employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. For reasons obvious, there is a state where residents are more inflexible the search for solutions that the state of Texas.

Last year, Texas Gov. Rick Perry decided harness the private justice between some Texans and install video cameras along the southern border that could be controlled by the camera view feeds on a home computer. Unfortunately, it seems that our monitoring efforts have fallen well below expectations.

The state of Texas received a federal grant of $ 2 million to install surveillance cameras along the border with Mexico, with the objectives for the program being established by the Sheriff Texas Border Coalition. A research program was recently published and the results are far from impressive. While the coalition expected to make arrests in 1200 his first year as a result of city councils, have only been three arrests in the first six months. It expects to install 200 cameras, which would be a camera for every six miles of border, but so far only thirteen and cameras are operational, leaving 80 miles of the border between each camera. With these figures as evidence, the case that federal funds are being used effectively is hard to do.

Despite these early disappointments, Governor Perry is committed to the program. As his spokeswoman, Katherine Cesinger, said he sees the camera as a way to "use technology to you not have to pay for an extra set of eyes. "Opponents argue that Governor Perry is simply trying to curry favor with conservatives who have strong feelings about illegal immigration and must admit that the program has little or no effect on the actual border security.
