Mormon pioneer ancestors are justifiably proud of the heritage and history of the brave people who settled in Utah, Nevada and California in 1800.

A terrible organization dedicated to preserving this heritage is of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Website for DUP.

Maureen Smith, vice president of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers took a few minutes to talk to me about recent sightings of ghosts in the museum.

On October 10, 2007 Capitol Utah State Police saw an image on monitors that come from the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum.

One of the officers actually took a picture of the image on the monitor, and gave the photo to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum. See the image here.

The monitors are in the Utah Capitol building, and the images come from cameras at the Museum a few blocks away. State Police see the monitors, and answer, if it appears that there is an intruder.

The image appeared four times in a period of 8 days, and always appeared between about 11:00 PM and 3:00 PM. During these hours, the museum is closed and empty, no one is in accepting the cleaning or maintenance.

During This 8-day period motion detectors at the Museum broke several times and 4 times the image appeared. The ghostly image appeared without activating the detectors sometimes moving, sometimes motion detectors went off without displaying the image.

Each time the image was seen it appeared that the same person and the picture always persisted for several minutes.

State Capitol Police are security for the Museum so that officers sent to investigate and find the Museum of insurance each time I saw unusual images or motion detectors went.

In an interesting side story, the museum director speculated that she may know who is in the image.

20 years ago a "Sampler" was stolen from the museum. A "sampler" is a piece of embroidered cloth embroidered students used to prove that they knew his stitches.

An employee recognized the Sampler Museum listed for sale on eBay, and that the staff member contacted eBay, and sent the documentation that the item was stolen, so contact the eBay seller. The eBay seller, which the family had purchased the samples in good faith in previous years, immediately return the sampler to the daughters of Utah Pioneers.

During the interval of the images shown to the State Police, and the return of the sampling a custodian reported that one night he saw a young man dressed in black, sitting on a bench in the lobby of the museum.

The guard explained that the museum was closed and must go out, opened it and opened the front door, she never spoke, but got up and walked out the door, but not the stairs! "The girl floated above steps and the sidewalk until it disappeared!

This story was brought to our attention by Carolyn Richardson, daughter of a pioneer of Utah. History originally appeared in your newsletter.
