What are some good movies Russian Soviet / people of other nationalities may also enjoy?

I have to show films to students as part of the Russian club at my university. The Soviet classic comedies are great, but I think a lot of time Americans do not get that kind of humor. The other option is serious films that most people find really depressing. Any suggestions? Also, is there any Russia's new movie good? I only know of the classics. Thanks!
