How do I connect my DVD / VCR, cable box, DVR, DVD recorder and home theater system with my HDTV?

I have an RCA HDTV, SV 2000 Digital DVD / VCR, Apex digital home theater, cable box, Direct TV, and a Liteon DVD recorder. No I was able to connect since I got them a years ago.I was told to buy a DVD recorder to record movies he saw on the cable because the SV 2000 was playing.Can only to tell me, (it absolutely is not technically inclined person) in simple terms how to connect components and these?
